Aus den Fingern kann sich der popularwissenschaftliche Schriftsteller nun einmal nichts saugen, und bis zu einem gewissen Grade muß deshalb auch Jeder ein Plagiator sein. Wenn das eigentliche Gedankengebäude neu ist, dann ist man wohl berechtigt, passende Zierformen von schon Bestehendem zu gebrauchen. Nach Emmerson 1 ist der größte Genius zugleich auch der größte Entlehner.*2 Es kommt da ganz auf das Wie 3 an. Man darf das Gute nehmen, wo man es findet, 4 wenn man einen großen Zweck damit erreichen will; aber man darf es sich nicht merken lassen; man muß mit dem Entlehnten etwas wirklich Neues hervorbringen.
