Das menschliche Mitteilungsbedürfnis aber hat sich Laute erfunden,

Liegt es an mir? Läuft nur mir die Wirkung gewisser Wörter
auf eine Weise das Rückenmark hinunter,
daß sie mir Ahnungen von Erlebnissen erwecken, die es gar nicht gibt?

Bolesť má svoje hranice: telesná v bezvedomí,

Najprv musíme dlhý čas nesystematicky zbierať poznatky,
ktoré nám budú slúžiť ako stavebné materiály,
nechávajúc sa viesť ideou skrytou v našich mysliach,
ba dokonca musíme najprv premnoho času stráviť
technickým usporadúvaním týchto materiálov,
a až potom budeme schopní zočiť ideu v jasnejšom svetle
a načrtnúť ju architektonicky ako celok.
